A compact Agave with distinctive spiky foliage. Dozens of thin, stiff, rounded leaves radiate outward from the base of the plant, creating a dense, spherical rosette. Grows as a single rosette and rarely produces offsets. Once it reaches maturity, it will bloom with an 8 to 10 foot tall stalk of yellow flowers, at which point the primary rosette will die. Leaves are toothless but its multitude of sharp terminal spines means it should be kept out of reach of people and pets. Tolerates full sun and reflected heat in coastal conditions, but inland it should be grown in light shade to part sun. Plant in well-draining soil and water occasionally
