Huachuca Agave is a compact, hard-bodied Agave that’s low maintenance and highly drought tolerant. Great for xeric gardens, desert gardens, and containers. Rigid, shield-shaped leaves are a powdery blue-green and have sharp, reddish brown marginal teeth and terminal spines. As such, it should be planted where it will be out of reach of people and pets. Once it reaches maturity, it will bloom with a 10 to 20 foot tall stalk of yellow flowers. After flowering, the primary rosette will die, leaving behind a colony of smaller offsets. Sometimes confused with the species (Agave parryi), its leaves are slightly larger and thicker and more tightly arranged in the rosette. Prefers full sun to light shade inland. Plant in sharply-draining soil and water infrequently to not at all once established
