Aloe fosteri grows as a single, low-growing rosette that reaches 2 to 3 feet wide and produces offsets periodically but not prolifically. Linear rows of spots on the leaves form a striking pattern of horizontal white stripes. Foliage is blue-green, sometimes shading towards gray and takes on shades of dark purple in full sun. Prone to leaf tip dieback which may be avoided if it is given some protection from afternoon sun in our hot, inland climate. Blooms with huge candelabra-shaped flower stalks in fall that grow up to 5 feet tall and have multiple branches, each bearing spikes of bright orange flowers with yellow tips. Plant in well-draining soil and water occasionally to infrequently.
