A wide-ranging bunchgrass native to much of North America including southern California. It is highly adaptable to different conditions and is a good alternative to non-native ornamental grasses in certain circumstances. Grows in a medium-sized clump of delicate, upright blades. Blooms spring into fall with wispy blonde flowers that mature into showy red-pink seed heads. Plant in full sun to light shade and water sparingly to not at all once established. Requires well-drained, gritty soil but is can adapt to other soil types in less harsh climates. Many contractors have difficulty establishing this plant as mass plantings in Southern California so it's widespread use in mass plantings should be carefully researched. Proper irrigation managment and drainage are real keys to success. Winter dormant.
