A hybrid of Baccharis pilularis and Baccharis sarothroides, Baccharis ‘Centennial’ is a compact, evergreen shrub that’s highly tolerant of heat, drought, and poor soil. Perfect for creating a lush-looking mass planting in dry landscapes and streetscapes. Also useful for slope stabilization and erosion control. Forms a low mound of tiny, toothed, bright green leaves that give the shrub a soft texture. In fall, it blooms with clusters of puffy white flowers that attract pollinators. Like all Baccharis species, it’s a good source of food and habitat for native insects, birds, and butterflies. Grows 2 to 3 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide. Plant in full sun to light shade. Not particular about soil type as long as it is fast-draining. Thrives on infrequent to no supplemental water once established, even inland. Prune lightly in winter for more compact growth.
