‘Little John’ is a dwarf Callistemon with a compact, rounded form that grows slowly to just 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Dense, evergreen foliage emerges bright green at tips and ages to blue-green. In spring and summer (and sometimes into fall) plump, crimson red, bottlebrush flowers bloom at the tips of the branches. Requires pruning, especially when young and annually thereafter to maintain rounded form. Perfect for use as a small garden accent or to form a low hedge. Will take many years planted from a 1g or 5g container to make a full sized/dense hedge as it is much slower growing than many of the other Callistemon. Takes full exposure and high heat and is not particular about soil type as long as it is well-draining. Best planted in an area with irrigation as it does need regular water to establish properly, although once established it can survive on occasional water. Frost damage will occur around 30 degrees. Plant will survive at 25 degrees but significant damage is likely. Also, Little John is oddly sensitive to root disturbance so take special care not to cut or disturb the roots upon planting. We have seen many landscape installations with sporadic failure due to such disturbance that usually takes a number of days to manifest itself,
