A prostrate form of California Lilac that grows into a 2 to 3+ foot high mound off of which trail stems of glossy, deep green leaves. A durable Ceanothus that spreads quickly to 8 to 12 feet. Forms a dense ground cover but can also be pruned into a low hedge. Covered in clusters of lilac blue flowers in spring that attract bees and butterflies. Useful for slope stabilization. Prefers full sun along the coast but needs afternoon shade in inland gardens. Prefers occasional to regular irrigation. For best success in inland conditions, establish during the cooler months of the year. Very fast growing in most situations. Can be susceptible to mealy bug and Ceanothus leaf gall. Mealy bug can be particularly lethal for the plant so aggressive treatment is usually warranted if an infestation is recognized.
