Native to the Mediterranean Basin, Atlas Fescue is a clumping evergreen grass that can be mixed into meadow gardens, planted on slopes, or used in large-scale mass plantings. It forms 2-3 by 2-3 foot clumps of thin, slightly arching, green / yellowish foliage. Most forms grown in the industry rarely bloom if ever.. Evergreen but benefits from having older foliage raked out of it once a year. Can also be cut back if new foliage is desired but the plant never quite takes on the same character after a hard pruning. Tolerates a wide variety of soil types as long as they are well-draining. Plant in full sun or part shade. Drought tolerant but foliage looks best with regular water.
In our experience, this grass is best used in small groups or in accents. If it is going to be used in a mass setting, make sure to provide adequate space between the plants. Otherwise, it can be unsightly.
