Regal Mist (registered trademark) is a Pink Muhly grass selection notable for its outstanding flower performance. Compact clumps of green leaves send up flower spikes topped with innumerable tiny blooms in late summer, forming a dusky pink cloud that floats 12 to 18 inches above the foliage. Breathtaking in mass plantings. Flowers best in full sun. Prefers well-draining soil, Drought tolerant once established. As a warm season grass, Regal Mist grows vigorously during the warmer months and shuts down during the winter. Its degree of dormancy / browning is highly dependent on regional microclimates. In many milder areas, the foliage will take on a mix of brown and green in the winter and in colder areas, it will brown out completely. Care should be taken on how the material is cut back in the winter. ‘Box’ hedging as commonly seen throughout Arizona and Nevada should be avoided. Regal Mist is a registered trademark. Cultivar name is ‘Lenca’. There have been many spinoffs .including Royal Fog, Pink Mist, etc. To make sure you are getting the registered trademark Regal Mist, make sure that the plants you receive are accompanied with a trademark label. Also, be aware that many of the straight species M. capillaris begin produced and sold on the market are grown from seed and have a high degree of variability in flower color (many are very muted and almost white) and overall performance. Regal Mist is grown clonally so will have exacting flower color and a consistent performance profile.
