A semi-evergreen bunch grass with long-lasting flower spikes and a narrow, upright form that makes it good for tight spaces. In fall and early winter, it blooms with long, fluffy plumes of purplish white flowers that rise 12 to 18 inches above the foliage. Flowers age to ivory white and eventually to dark tan over the winter. Forms a 3 to 5 foot tall and 2 to 4 foot wide clump of upright, blue-green foliage. Useful for narrow strips and striking in mass plantings and meadows. Cut back to a couple inches above the ground in late winter to refresh foliage and maintain upright growth habit. Not particular about soil type as long as it is well-drained. Can survive on occasional water, but foliage looks best if given moderate to regular water. Plant in full sun to part shade inland.
