Native to the Sonoran Desert, this showy perennial is perfect for rock gardens, desert gardens, xeriscapes, and other hot, dry sites. It forms a low mound of thick, blue-green foliage and blooms with 2 to 3 foot tall wands of tiny, bell-shaped, hot pink flowers late winter to mid-spring. Flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Tolerant of high heat including reflective heat. Plant in full sun to light shade. Drought tolerant (and may go dormant during times of extended drought) but also tolerant of occasional to regular water. Needs sharply-draining soil and is exceptionally sensitive to overwatering. Subject to powdery mildew and can be difficult to establish. Tends to be short-lived in most non-desert areas of S. California
