One of the darkest Phormiums, ‘Platt’s Black’ is useful for color and texture contrast in the garden. Broad, arching foliage is a glossy dark chocolate. It’s not a reliable bloomer in southern California gardens and is mostly grown for the foliage, but in summer it may bloom with a tall spike or orange-red flowers. Plant in full sun to part shade. Not particular about soil type. Looks best if given regular to occasional irrigation.
