A California native deciduous shrub with an upright, multi trunk habit. It’s primarily grown in residential gardens for its display of fragrant pink drooping flower clusters that bloom late winter into early spring. It also provides food and habitat for native birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Plant in part sun to shade inland. Plant in well-draining, preferably acidic, soil. Deciduous in times of drought and in winter.
We also grow a variety called ‘Claremont’, selected by the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden for its particularly large, long flower racemes.
