Salvia Dara's Choice is a hybrid low growing sage that was introduced to the industry by the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. It is thought to be a cross between S. sonomensis and S. mellifera. The plant has greenish aromatic leaves and blue/purple flowers in the spring that hummingbirds relish. Over the years, there has been much confusion in the industry as to the proper Dara's Choice. To date we have seen three different forms of the plant, all that look dissimilar. We are happy to say that our mother stock comes directly from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden so we can confidently sell our material as true to name. This Salvia is noted for its toughness and fast growth. It will quickly grow to its mature height and width within a couple of growing seasons. It is best suited for smaller scale and residential applications rather than large commercial projects. It can be susceptible to root rots, particularly in the summer months if drainage is not adequate or if receives too much water.
