Savia Desperado is a hybrid of Salvia apiana and Salvia leucophylla that has excellent horticultural appeal. The leaf is silvery grey like Salvia apiana but a bit thinner than the true species. The flower is the color of S. leucophylla but formed like a combination of the two parents. Exceptionally fast growing. Fragrant. Hummingbirds will regularly feed off of the flowers. Although a bit more tolerant of garden conditions than either of the parent species, this plant is still better suited for small scale applications where maintenance and irrigation can be closely monitored. Care must be taken during the summer months, particularly inland, in regard to supplemental irrigation. Best with good drainage. Its functional landscape use is about 3-5' x about the same and is best with an annual pruning in late summer to encourage fresh growth the following season.
