A striking selection of South American native Salvia guaranitica with vivid indigo blue flowers and black calyces. Mid summer into fall flowers are born on 12 inch long stalks that hover about shield-shaped green foliage. Flowers are highly attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. A shrub that can grow up to five feet tall and wide but can be pruned liberally to maintain a height and spread of three feet. It looks best and remains more compact if cut down to the ground in late winter. When pruning, it is important to leave some leaves/growth below the pruning cuts. Can take full sun on the coast but appreciates part shade in hot inland locations. Plant in well-draining but fertile soil and water regularly.
