‘Santa Barbara’ is a smaller, more compact selection of Mexican Bush Sage known for its showy spikes of two-toned white and purple flowers that first emerge in spring and rebloom continuously through fall. Foliage is a deeply-textured, dark green on top and silver-grey on the bottom that contrasts beautifully with its fuzzy white stems. Great for hot, dry, sunny spots and only needs occasional to infrequent water once established but looks best with more water. Plant in full sun to light shade. Flowers are highly attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Should be pruned in mid to late winter for a more compact growth habit and a fresh look in the Spring. As with other Salvia leucantha, it is imperative to wait for basal resprout to cut the plant back hard. Failure to do so typically results in mortality.
