A Salvia mellifera hybrid that forms a wide mound of highly-aromatic, dark green, textured foliage. In spring, it blooms with spikes of whorled white flowers that attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Will naturally and quickly mound up to 2 to 4 feet tall by wide. It does not stay low to the ground as its name may imply. Can be pruned back annually to maintain a better kept appearance and refresh annual growth. Performs best in fast-draining, even gravely, soil. Grow in full to part sun and water occasionally to infrequently once established. Will go dormant in summer during times of drought. Best if planted fall to early spring, especially if it is going to be used for large scale plantings/coverage. Attempts to plant in the summer months typically lead to high mortality rates.
