Allegedly, this cultivar was an unplanned hybrid that formed in the Victoria garden of Australian Salvia enthusiast Wendy Smith. The plant garnered admiration for its showy magenta flowers displayed on dark maroon stems. It is also held in high regard for its long flowering period and quick growth. The evergreen foliage is glossy and grows in a compact manner. Once established, the sage is drought- and heat-tolerant. It is recommended that this plant be placed in full sun to partial shade for best results.
