Yerba Buena is a native evergreen groundcover most commonly found in central and northern California coastal-facing areas, the Santa Monica Mountains and Channel Islands being the southernmost tip of its range. It has delicate glossy foliage along its trailing stems and blooms in spring and summer with tiny, white, tubular flowers. It prefers shady understory settings and grows especially well along the coast and in areas that get fog drip. Plant in full shade to part sun inland and water occasionally once established. Should not be disturbed once planted as it prefers to root into the ground at points along its stems. Its fragrant foliage is edible and is often used to make a tea.
