A member of the sedge family native to coastal salt marsh, freshwater wetland, and riparian communities throughout California. Three-angled, deep green foliage is topped with tan spikelets in the summer. Reaches 6 to 7 feet tall and spreads continuously via rhizomes. Most commonly used for both inland and coastal wetland revegetation projects. Prefers full sun and needs consistently moist to wet soil or standing water for optimal growth. Provides food and habitat for birds and aquatic animals in its native range.
