A compact, clumping evergreen grass that grows in upright mounds of slender, yellowish, green foliage. In spring, flower spikes bearing white inflorescences rise 12 to 18 inches above the foliage. In summer, flowers are replaced by tawny brown seed heads that persist through the winter. Well-adapted to all but the harshest desert climates. Grows in a variety of soil types (sand, clay, high and low pH) and sun exposures, from full sun to partial shade. Reasonably drought tolerant but requires supplemental irrigation in the summer months. Will not naturalize or self-sow. If you are looking for a similar small stature grass but with more grey/blue/green leaves, take a look at Sesleria Greenlee or Sesleria heufleriana.
