A compact, clumping evergreen grass with stiff, blue-green blades that retain their vibrant color throughout the year. Flower spikes bearing white and purple inflorescences rise above the foliage in spring, replaced by purple-brown seed heads that persist through the winter. Looks great planted in masses, in meadow gardens, or used as a large-scale groundcover. Performs best in full sun but can benefit from some protection in hot inland climates during the summer. Prefers well-drained soil and regular water but is somewhat drought tolerant on the coast.
