Woolly Blue Curls is a native, evergreen shrub that features long, narrow stems of fragrant, needle-like leaves. In spring, these stems become wands of violet blue flowers on fuzzy, dark purple calyces that contrast beautifully with the plant’s bright green foliage. Flowers can be cut back to encourage continuous blooming through summer and into fall. Young plants need fast-draining soil and regular watering in order to establish properly, but once established, this plant should be given no summer water. It will not tolerate standing water. Organic mulches and fertilizers should also be avoided. Perfect as a flowering accent in a rock garden, cutting garden, or along a wall or garden path. While fast-growing, this is a short-lived plant both in the wild and in the garden, and it may have to be replanted every 3 to 5 years. Attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Best if established drawing the cooler months between October and March. Even during these periods, many people find this plant difficult to establish. It can have a fairly high establishment failure rate. But it really is a must have for any native garden!
