A semiaquatic, grass-like perennial found throughout North America in wetlands, marshes, ponds, and lakeshores. It can grow 5 to 10 feet tall and spreads quickly via rhizomes. Features strappy, erect green foliage and produces its signature cylindrical brown flower spikes in late spring and early summer. Recommended for erosion control and freshwater habitat restoration as it absorbs pollutants and provides food and habitat for birds and other wildlife. Can be grown in standing water and is not particular about soil type as long as it is kept constantly wet. Extremely vigorous grower that is most appropriate for restoration, water quality, and other remediation projects. Winter dormant
