A hybrid of A. attenuata and A. ocahui, ‘Blue Glow’ is a compact, hard-bodied Agave featuring blue-green leaves lined with tiny spines and a short, red terminal spine. Red margins and a thin yellow band on the outer edges of the leaves cause the plant to “glow” when backlit. Grows in solitary rosettes that reach up to 2 feet high and 3 feet wide. Will not form offsets and blooms only every 10 to 15 years. Great for container plantings, rock gardens, and desert gardens. Performs well in partial shade to full sun. Can scorch in excessive heat that can lead to tissue death.. Needs only occasional water once established. Although slow growing, this hybrid is well worth the wait. It has now become one of the most small stature Agaves used in S. California landscapes.
