Interesting new cultivar from Kelly Griffin with exceptionally blue leaf color, tight form and wickedly ornamental black teeth. Agave tintanota is rare in cultivation and according to Mr. Griffin, "The species is really quite variable and can range from mature clones reaching 5 feet across down to miniatures that are less that a foot across at maturity. Black and Blue is in between. Bright sun exposure gets the best black and the best blues. Great on hillsides and rockeries as well as for patio pots. Not difficult but likes water, good light and good drainage." Slow growing, it will likely only reach 2' x 2' at maturity. Kelly says he has a couple in San Diego that have been growing for a couple of years that are still just about 1' x 1'. Our thanks to Mr. Griffin for the information on this cool new clone.
