A perennial woody vine that’s endemic to central and northern California, growing most often under tree canopies and in other moist, shady spots. In spring, before foliage emerges, it’s covered in bulbous, pipe-shaped white and purple striped flowers. The rest of the year, its branches are covered in lush, heart-shaped green foliage. A carpeting and climbing vine that will cover the ground and twist its way up into trees, shrubs, and fences. Plant in part sun to full shade in moderately-fertile soil. Somewhat drought tolerant but grows and looks best with regular to moderate water. Winter dormant.
