A highly-adaptable, evergreen species of Carex with silvery blue-green foliage that looks great in meadows, garden beds, or used as a large-scale ground cover. A tough species that can be mowed and will take some foot traffic. It spreads slowly via runners to form a dense, 8 to 12 inch tall groundcover. Will spread faster if fertilized, given regular water, and cut back occasionally throughout the year to encourage lateral growth. In summer, it blooms with small brown flowers that resemble grass seed heads. Will take full sun with ample water (and can even be grown in shallow water no deeper than 2 inches) but is more drought tolerant the more shade it gets. Useful for erosion control.
