A sedge that grows primarily in northern and central California along river banks and in wetlands. Forms a dense mound of bright green, cascading foliage up to 2.5’ tall and 2’ wide. Long, scaly, black and brown flower spikes appear in late winter/early spring. Good for erosion control. Can grow partially submerged in water or in moist to wet soil. Requires moderate to regular water. Plant in part sun to full shade in sharply-draining (preferably rocky or sandy) soil.
