A naturally occurring hybrid of C. griseus and C. foliosus introduced by Roger Raiche of the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley, ‘Joan Mirov’ is a spreading shrub form of Ceanothus that’s ideal for hillside coverage and stabilization. In spring, its slender stems are covered in rosy purple buds that open to clusters of cobalt blue flowers. Tiny, glossy, dark green foliage is evergreen. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall and spreads 8 to 10 feet or wider. Best suited to more temperate coastal conditions, it needs protection from midday and afternoon sun in hot inland climates. Needs sharply-draining soil. Should be given occasional to regular water inland. One of the most disease resistant Ceanothus.
