An evergreen shrub popular for its bright flowers and tolerance of tough growing conditions. Easily withstands poor soil, high heat, coastal wind, and salt spray. Late spring into summer it blooms with orchid purple flowers that have a crimson spot at the base of each petal.Lanceolate foliage is lightly fragrant. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall and wide. Plant in full sun to light shade inland. Not particular about soil type as long as it is sharply-draining. Water infrequently to not at all once established. Deer resistant.
