An accurate name for this species as it gets quite gigantic reaching heights up to eight feet. Although the plant is native to the Channel Islands in performs well in many situations including hot interior valleys. The inflorescences on this shrub are quite delicate and attractive, starting out as a pinkish white and fading to rust in the fall. . Many consider this buckwheat to be the more ornamental of the shrubby forms. Can survive with little to no water once established even in more extreme conditions. Does best with an annual hard pruning in the late fall after the flowers lose their appeal. The pruning with nicely refresh the plant and help keep a tighter form as the following spring approaches.
