Pine Muhly is a mounding grass forming compact, evergreen clumps of slender grey-green foliage that bloom with erect spikes of cream-colored inflorescences in late summer and fall. Performs best in full sun and well-drained soil with occasional irrigation. Deer resistant. Native to high-desert regions of the American southwest and northern Mexico. Since about 2010, M. dubia has been used more frequently in Southern California landscapes, often as a tighter, more compact alternative to the California native M. rigens. As as warm season grass, it will brown out in many regions of S. California during the winter months. The amount of browning is highly dependent on local micro-climates.
