A naturally occurring hybrid of M. capillaris and M. lindheimeri that combines the airy pink flowers of Pink Muhly Grass with the narrow, upright form of Lindheimer's Muhly. Grows as a compact, 2 to 3 foot wide clump of steely grey-green foliage that reaches 3 to 4 feet tall. In late summer and fall, it blooms with large, arching plumes of tiny pink flowers that rise 18 inches above the foliage. Striking in mass plantings and useful for tight spaces due to its narrow growth habit. As a warm season grass, it grows vigorously during the warmer months and shuts down during the winter, during which time all or some of its foliage will brown depending on regional microclimates. Can be cut back in late winter or early spring for a flush of new growth or raked to remove dead foliage. Tolerant of high heat and drought, it needs only occasional or infrequent water once established. Plant in well-draining soil. Prefers full sun to light shade inland.
