Echeveria

Echeveria is a large genus of succulents in the stonecrop family. Found from Texas south to Argentina, with many species indigenous to Mexico. These plants are characterized by rosettes of fleshy grey-green leaves, sometimes tinged with pink or red, that appear to glow in reflected light. They produce stems of pink, red or yellow bellshaped flowers that contrast beautifully with their foliage color. Echeveria are commonly called “Hens and Chicks” for the way they produce numerous offsets that seem to gather around the mother plant. Drought-tolerant and easy to maintain, they are excellent in succulent gardens, rock gardens and in containers.

REQUIREMENTS: Zones vary by species. Well-drained soil. Full sun to part shade. Require little to no water once established but best with supplemental irrigation in the summer to keep a fresh appearance.
