‘Powerline Pink’ is a Hummingbird Sage selection notable for its large stature and massive inflorescences. Forms spreading colonies that grow 2 to 3 feet high with spikes of deep red-magenta flowers rising 2 to 3 feet above the foliage. Flowers bloom in spring and attract bees and hummingbirds. Its krinkled, spear-shaped foliage has a pleasant, fruity fragrance. Can be planted under oaks or in other dry shade areas. ‘Powerline Pink’ holds up better in the sun than the species but prefers and performs best in mostly shade conditions. Can usually survive the summer without supplemental water on the coast but needs occasional irrigation inland to prevent summer dormancy. Can be susceptible to powdery mildew in specific conditions. Best planted fall to early spring.
