A small evergreen grass that grows in compact clumps of bicolored leaf blades that are a silvery blue-green on one side and dark green on the other. It is quite similar in appearance and growth habit to Sesleria caerulea but has greener foliage, larger blooms, and (at 12 to 18 inches all around) grows a little taller and wider. Blooms in spring with purple-black, rounded flower spikes that age to light tan over the summer and fall. Good for use as a large or small scale groundcover or in residential gardens and perennial beds. Not particular about soil type but prefers loamy soil. It prefers light shade to part sun when grown in hot inland climates. Needs moderate to regular water inland. Very easy to grow and maintain.
