A compact, white flowering hybrid of the sturdy evergreen shrub Rockrose which tolerates poor soil, high heat, high wind, and even salt spray. Spring through early summer it’s covered in rose-colored buds that open to large, pure white, crepe-paper-like flowers with bright yellow centers that have a similar appearance to the Matilija Poppy. Its lightly crinkled, leathery leaves are dark green on top and silvery grey on the bottom, contrasting beautifully with its reddish stems. Grows quickly to 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Perfect for dry slopes or banks, used as a decorative hedge or screen, or used as a foundation plant to add a lush look to dry landscapes. Plant in full sun to light shade inland. Not particular about soil type as long as it is sharply-draining. Water only occasionally once established. Flower petals create a fair amount of litter once they drop, so it’s best planted in an area where this will not cause a problem for people or other plants. Prune only after flowering. Deer resistant.
