A hybrid of H. sanguinea and the California native H. maxima, Heuchera ‘Wendy’ is a evergreen perennial forming small mounds of scalloped, deep green foliage. Blooms profusely with 1 to 2 foot tall spikes bright pink flowers in spring. It is a great choice for under oak trees and other dry shade situations. It is particularly striking when planted in large masses. Hummingbirds will visit in high frequency once they find the flowers. Requires full shade in most conditions. In milder coastal climates, it can perform in filtered shade conditions. Can struggle if given too much water during the summer months. And can suffer from mealy bug infestations which if left uncontrolled can kill that plant.
