Bred to have vibrant flower color, numerous blooms, and a compact growth habit, the Penstemon ‘Riding Hood’ series are perfect for adding bright color and attracting hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies to cottage gardens and perennial beds. Riding Hood Red grows as an upright clump of glossy, lance-shaped leaves and blooms with spikes of two-lipped, crimson red flowers from late spring into fall. Deadhead flower spikes over the summer to encourage reblooming and cut back (leaving leaves below the pruning cuts) in winter for more compact form and denser foliage in spring. Grow in full sun to light shade. Prefers sharply-draining soil and regular to occasional irrigation.
