An evergreen subshrub native to Baja California that’s tolerant of hot, dry exposure as well as typical garden conditions. Blooms year-round with clusters of lilac purple flowers and features deeply divided foliage that gives it a lacy appearance. Typically grows up to 3 feet high and 4 feet wide but can be kept smaller in the garden. Can be pruned as needed to refresh foliage and flowers. Plant in full sun in medium to well-draining soil and water occasionally but deeply. Flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. We grow two varieties of Verbena lilacina: De La Mina' grows two to 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, and has a more compact habit. Features vibrant dark purple flowers. ‘Paseo Rancho’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide and has a more open form. Flowers are pale purple-pink and fragrant.
